Good Night - Love You - See You Tomorrow

Updated: Apr 1

My younger son and I have this sweet ritual before bedtime. We read together for about twenty minutes, then spend a few more talking about what we learned or guessing what might happen next. After that comes the goodnight kiss, and I quietly leave his room.

The other night, it was late. He asked me to read for him, but I gently said no, kissed him goodnight, and walked out. A few steps later, his voice called after me:

“Good night, Mama. Love you. See you tomorrow.”

As I walked down the hallway, I replied:

“Good night, honey. Love you. See you tomorrow.”

Then it struck me this simple little nightly exchange carried a powerful blessing; The essence of a life well-lived.

Good night.

How precious it is to wish someone a good night. To end their day which is often too packed with plans, deadlines, and noise - with rest and peace. A night that:

clears the mind,

resets the heart,

and recharges the soul for another sunrise.

Love you.

To me, this is the simplest yet most powerful phrase of all. The pulse behind all that makes life worth living.

We are born to love and be loved.

No amount of wealth or title can ever buy true love.

A mansion filled with gold but emptied of love is but an echoing hall of loneliness – an empty house.

And yes! I live on the same planet so I do realize that money can take us far. It can gather admirers, attract followers, and surround us with loud and eager yes-sayers.

Sincere? Not usually.

Opportunistic? Most probably.

But the love I speak of sits quietly by your bedside when you’re unwell, catches your tears when your heart breaks, and remains with you when you fall no matter how broke you are.

The steadfast, selfless love that holds your hand, warms your heart, and softly whispers of a brighter tomorrow until you rise again.

See you tomorrow.

Such a gentle promise, yet full of hope.

The belief that there will be another morning, one where our eyes open again to the faces we cherish most. What greater wish than that?

How incredible that a child’s simple nightly refrain can become a sacred prayer;

one that blesses the night with peace,

the heart with love,

and the future with hope.

Kent Nerburn captures it simply and beautifully in Small Graces:

"Ritual is routine infused with mindfulness. It is habit made holy. "

So I invite you: Sit with someone dear to you a loved one, a friend, a soul you trust and create a simple, genuine saying or nightly prayer of your own. A few words that speak from your heart and remind you of what truly matters. Say it out loud each day. Let it be your compass back to gratitude, love, and faith in tomorrow.

Because when your heart speaks, the universe listens, and cannot help but respond.

And if you'd like help with that, my door is wide open.
