Echoes on The Surface

This morning, I was sitting in the yard, trying to breathe in the fresh morning air and meditate before the lawn mowers began their daily job of disturbing the serene silence of a new day. (Is it just me or do you also find them oddly committed to reminding us of the sharp contrast between nature’s songs and human-made noise in those first gentle hours of the day?!)

As I was getting ready, I glanced at the pool and watched the water, its small waves shining with every ray of the rising sun.

And this thought came to me: I could see the reflection of the sky so clearly in the water the clouds, the morning light, the birds flying above. It was so real, and yet, only a reflection.

I looked up, could not see a beginning or an end. I could only witness and feel its infinite depth. I could not touch it, yet somehow, I could sense it deep within me.

It made me think of pictures, photographs from a ceremony perhaps a wedding. With a masterful photographer, moments are beautifully captured. We can relive the story, picture the smiles, the dancing, the music. We might even taste the sweetness of the cake – especially if you have a sweet tooth like me!

But can we truly feel it?

Can we feel the trembling joy, the quiet worries, the compassionate hand holding of that old couple who have walked through life together and are witnessing another joyful union, the warmth of looking into the eyes of your loved one, the tears flowing down, or the laughters rising to the sky?

—————————————————————

We see it all through a two-dimensional lens a glimpse of a moment once overflowing with emotion, now flattened onto paper or nowadays our screens.

Beautiful, yes.

Imaginable, perhaps.

But never the full experience.

Just as we see the sky reflected in the water, yet cannot step into its endless blue, we watch the birds trace freedom, yet cannot follow their flight through.

We can only stand below, hearts lifted, and look up.

Perhaps we are living in Heaven’s reflection.

Perhaps this is just a glimpse, a taste, a two-dimensional image of a far greater, multi-dimensional beauty and for that, I am grateful. Because even a reflection can be breathtaking.

And if it is Heaven's reflection, then it holds the potential to reflect infinite possibility, infinite joy, infinite love, and infinite wonder.

And if we are living within even a glimpse of that magnificence, then perhaps we are already living in beauty beyond measure. Or perhaps:

We are the infinite beauty.

We can make this life a meaningful experience, a memorable second, a high-quality picture, a reflection worth visiting and revisiting.

I believe life was never meant to be only about what we can hold in our hands, but about what we can feel in our souls.

So let us keep our heads high and our gaze toward the horizon, rather than looking down counting the material. Let us open up our heart, breathe in Heaven, and live gracefully with the short time we have.

Let us make this experience, even if merely a reflection, not something we simply pass through, but something truly worth living.

And if you'd like help with that, my door is wide open.
